“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.” – Ps 62:8 (ESV)
David’s invitation to ‘pour out your heart’ is one of Scripture’s most hospitable images of prayer. Pouring out suggests complete emptying — holding nothing back, filtering nothing out, presenting the full contents of the interior life before God. This kind of prayer requires trust, which is why trust comes first in the verse: ‘Trust in him at all times.’ Before we can pour out our hearts, we must be convinced that the One receiving them is safe. A refugee does not pour out their heart to an unsafe person. But God is our refuge — the safe place, the shelter, the one who receives even the most turbulent outpourings with perfect steadiness and perfect love.

Lord, I pour out my heart before You right now — all of it: ___. You are my refuge. I trust that nothing I bring overwhelms You, offends You, or diminishes Your love. Receive it all. Amen.
