“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” – Isa 40:8 (ESV)
saiah places God’s Word in contrast with everything that is temporary — and everything human is temporary. Grass and flowers are beautiful but they wither and fade. Civilizations rise and collapse. Technologies are born and become obsolete. Cultural certainties dissolve into historical footnotes. But the Word of God stands — the Hebrew qum means to arise, to be established, to endure. Jesus echoes this in Matthew 5:18: not a jot or tittle will pass away until all is accomplished. The Christian who builds their life on God’s Word is building on the only foundation that will still be standing when everything else has faded. This is not religious sentiment — it is the most practical investment available.

How much of your life — your decisions, your values, your identity — is built on things that will fade versus the Word that stands forever?
What would it look like to build more deliberately on the permanent?
Prayer:
Lord, Your Word stands forever. I choose to build on what will not fade — Your Word, Your promises, Your character. Where I have been building on temporary things, show me and help me rebuild on what endures. Amen.
