“Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” – John 16:24 (ESV)
Jesus speaks this on the eve of His crucifixion — instituting a new era of prayer. Before the cross, prayer in His name was not yet available; after the resurrection, it becomes the primary means of access. To pray in Jesus’ name is not a formula appended to the end of a prayer; it is praying on the basis of His authority, in alignment with His character, and under the shelter of His merit. The purpose Jesus states is remarkable: that your joy may be full. Prayer is not merely a means to get things from God — it is the pathway to fullness of joy. The person who does not pray is not just missing answers; they are missing joy. The two are connected because the deepest joy is found in conscious communion with God.

Are you experiencing the full joy that Jesus promises as the fruit of prayer?
If joy has been thin, could a return to regular, name-invoking prayer in Jesus be its restoration?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I pray in Your name — not as a formula but as a declaration that I come on Your merit, under Your authority, in alignment with Your character. Fill me with the joy that flows from this kind of prayer. Amen.
