“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” – James 5:16 (ESV)
James connects confession and intercession in a way that modern individualism tends to separate. Genuine community prayer requires genuine personal transparency. The prayer that has ‘great power as it is working’ (energoumene — energized, active, working from within) is the prayer of a righteous person — not the morally perfect, but the one who is walking honestly before God. Sin unconfessed creates static in the prayer channel; confession clears it. This is not suggesting that God only hears the spiritually elite. It means that a clean conscience before God enables the kind of bold, faith-filled, Spirit-energized prayer that moves mountains. Confession is prayer preparation.
