“Keep steady my steps according to your word, and let no iniquity get dominion over me.” – Ps 119:133 (ESV)
The psalmist prays for his steps to be ordered by the Word — not by personal preference, cultural consensus, or emotional impulse. This is the submission of practical daily life to Scripture’s authority. ‘Keep steady’ (kun) means to establish, to make firm — the same rootedness of a post driven into solid ground. The connection to the second half of the verse is significant: when our steps are ordered by the Word, iniquity does not gain dominion over us. Sin often enters through the unordered step — the decision made without consulting Scripture, the action taken from impulse rather than principle. A Word-ordered life is a life that has narrowed the avenues of sin’s domination.
