Paul reveals one of God’s primary instruments for sustaining perseverance: the Scriptures themselves. Every story of the Old Testament — Abraham’s waiting, Joseph’s suffering, David’s pursuit by Saul, Daniel’s exile — was written for our instruction. Not merely as historical information but as endurance fuel. The encouragement of the Scriptures is not generic positivity; it is the specific, proven, documented faithfulness of God across millennia of human history. When we read of God’s faithfulness to Abraham, we receive encouragement not just to admire Abraham but to trust the same God. Hope is the product — and it is grounded in evidence.
