“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” – Ps 119:11 (ESV)
The Hebrew word for ‘stored up’ (tsaphan) means to treasure, to hide away as something of great value — the same word used of a mother hiding her infant from danger. The psalmist treats God’s Word not as information to be catalogued but as treasure to be guarded in the innermost place. The purpose is both protective and formative: ‘that I might not sin against You.’ Scripture memorized and meditated upon becomes an interior guard — not a list of rules but a living presence that shapes reflexes, redirects impulses, and reorients the heart before temptation gains its footing. A Word hidden in the heart is available at 3am when no Bible is open, in the split second before a wrong decision, in the moment when everything depends on what is already inside.

Prayer:
Lord, I want to treasure Your Word in my heart — not merely in my mind or on my shelf. What I hide there will guard me in moments I cannot anticipate. Help me begin the slow, faithful work of storing Your Word inside me. Amen.
