“Let us then with confidence approach the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” – Heb 4:16 (ESV)
The throne of grace is the most paradoxical image in Scripture: the place of ultimate divine authority is simultaneously the place of unlimited divine generosity. We approach not a throne of judgment — though God is perfectly just — but a throne of grace. And we are commanded to approach it with confidence (parresia — boldness, freedom of speech). This boldness is not earned by our spiritual condition; it is secured by our High Priest, Jesus, who has passed through the heavens and understands our weakness from the inside. We come not to impress but to receive: mercy for past failure, grace for present need. Every time of need is an occasion for this approach. And there is never a closed door.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, because You are my High Priest, I approach the throne of grace with boldness today. I come for mercy — You know where I have failed. I come for grace — You know what I need. I receive both. Amen.
