“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” – Col 1:9 (ESV)
Paul’s intercessory prayer for the Colossians is a model of what to ask for on behalf of others. He does not pray primarily for their circumstances to improve — he prays for their spiritual insight to deepen. ‘Filled with the knowledge of His will’ — not partial understanding but fullness. ‘In all spiritual wisdom and understanding’ — wisdom that is Spirit-sourced and applied practically. This is the most loving thing we can ask for another person: not that their life would be easier but that they would know God’s will more fully and walk in it more wisely. Intercession shaped by Paul’s model will transform both the one prayed for and the one praying.
