“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.” – Ps 34:17 (ESV)
David writes this psalm after a deeply undignified moment — he had feigned madness before a foreign king to save his own life. Yet from that humbling experience, he declares a truth as solid as the earth: when the righteous cry out, God hears and delivers. The word ‘cry’ (zaaq) is urgent, desperate, loud — the opposite of polite, composed prayer. God is not put off by the volume or the desperation of our prayers. He hears. And He does not merely sympathize — He delivers, out of all their troubles. Not some of them. All of them, in His time and His way. Crying out to God is not a sign of weak faith; it is the most honest acknowledgment that He is the Deliverer and we are the ones in need.

Are you too composed in your prayers — presenting a calm exterior to God when your interior is crying out?
What would it look like to pray with the raw, urgent honesty of someone who genuinely needs deliverance?
Prayer:
Lord, I cry out to You from my trouble. I stop managing my emotions before You and simply cry: help me. Hear me. Deliver me. I trust that You hear the righteous who call on You in desperate honesty. Amen.
