“And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” – Luke 11:9 (ESV)
Luke’s version of the ask-seek-knock teaching follows the parable of the friend at midnight — a man who gets up and gives bread not out of friendship but because of his neighbor’s shameless persistence. If a reluctant human friend responds to boldness, how much more will a generous heavenly Father respond to His children’s requests? The word ‘shameless persistence’ (anaideia) is remarkable — it suggests a prayer posture that is not embarrassed to keep asking, not ashamed to bring the same need repeatedly. Jesus applauds this kind of prayer. He does not call it lack of faith; He calls it the right approach to a God whose generosity surpasses the best of human friendship.
