Hebrews 10:23 (ESV)“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”

Faith often calls us to hold on when everything in us feels like letting go. The writer of Hebrews urges believers to “hold fast”—to grip tightly—the confession of our hope. This hope is not wishful thinking or human optimism; it is the sure expectation that God will fulfill all He has promised through Jesus Christ. Our confession is that Christ has redeemed us, reigns even now, and will return in glory.
To “hold fast” implies there will be pressures trying to pull us away—doubt, disappointment, fear, or the lure of comfort. But the command to hold fast is anchored in a greater truth: “He who promised is faithful.” Our perseverance doesn’t rest on the strength of our faith, but on the steadfastness of God’s character. He does not waver, falter, or forget. Every promise He has made finds its “Yes” and “Amen” in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20).
When trials shake us, we can stand firm because God’s faithfulness is immovable. When our emotions fluctuate, His truth remains constant. To hold fast, then, is less about clinging to our own grip and more about resting in His unbreakable hands.
The Christian life is a journey of trust—trust that the God who began a good work in us will bring it to completion (Philippians 1:6). Our hope endures not because we never waver, but because the One we hope in never changes.
Reflection:
Where have you felt tempted to loosen your grip on hope? Pause and remember God’s past faithfulness in your life. What promises from His Word can you hold to today?
Prayer:
Faithful Father, thank You that Your promises never fail. Strengthen my heart to hold fast to the hope I have in Christ. When doubts arise or trials weigh heavy, remind me that You are unchanging and true. Help me to rest in Your steadfast love and endure in confident trust. In Jesus’ name, amen.
